When you receive a trucking quote, the price may be listed as a base transportation rate plus a fuel surcharge. This is a standard practice in the transportation industry and allows trucking companies to adjust for changing diesel prices without constantly changing their base rates.

The applicable surcharge is normally included with the quote and shown separately on the invoice.

If the base transportation rate is $800 and the applicable fuel surcharge is 25%, the calculation is:
- Base rate: $800
- Fuel surcharge: $200
- Transportation total: $1,000
Taxes and any required accessorial services, such as detention, pre-pulls, storage, or additional stops, would be listed separately.
